Summary
BCBS Rhode Island now allows eligible providers to bill for interpreter services for Medicaid patients with Limited English Proficiency. Providers can use code T1013 to bill up to 8 units (15 minutes each) per office visit at $17.65 per unit, but must establish contracts with qualified interpreter agencies first.

Immediately: Eligible providers (physicians, dentists, podiatrists, optometrists, nurse practitioners, behavioral health providers) should establish business relationships with qualified interpreter agencies. Update billing system to include code T1013 for interpreter services. Train billing team to submit both office visit and interpreter service on same claim form to Gainwell Technologies. Document member name, MID number, visit date, location, type of interpretation, interpreter name, agency, and agency invoice in patient records.
