Summary
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island is implementing new CPT code coverage and payment rules effective October 1, 2025. Most new codes will require prior authorization, with one exception for mental health diagnoses and one code that needs no prior auth.
Action Required
By October 1, 2025: Billing team must update prior authorization requirements for 24 new U-codes (0575U-0599U except 0580U) in billing system. Note that 0587U does NOT require prior auth when billed with mental health diagnosis codes F01-F99. Code 0580U requires no prior authorization. Update encounter forms and EMR alerts to remind providers of prior auth requirements.
