Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island has updated their claims processing system with new CPT codes effective October 1, 2025. Most of the new codes (0575U-0599U) require prior authorization, while 0580U is covered without prior auth and 0587U requires prior auth except when billed with mental health diagnosis codes F01-F99.
Action Required
By October 1, 2025: Billing team must update prior authorization requirements in billing system for codes 0575U-0579U and 0581U-0599U (except 0580U which needs no prior auth). For code 0587U, configure system to bypass prior auth only when billed with ICD-10 diagnosis codes F01-F99 (mental health conditions). Update encounter forms to alert providers of prior auth requirements for these new proprietary laboratory analysis codes.
