Summary
BCBSRI clarifies that Advance Notices of Noncoverage (ANN) cannot be used for Medicare Advantage plans, and providers cannot have members sign self-pay agreements prior to services. Instead, providers must obtain pre-service organization determinations by contacting Health Services Management at (401) 272-5670 ext. 3012.

Immediately: Stop using Advance Notices of Noncoverage for Medicare Advantage patients. Remove any self-pay agreement processes for MA members. Before providing services to BCBSRI Medicare Advantage patients, obtain pre-service organization determination by calling (401) 272-5670 ext. 3012 or faxing to (401) 272-8885. Update front desk and billing staff procedures to ensure compliance.
