Summary
When billing BCBSRI as secondary payer for Medicare members with coordination of benefits, providers must include Medicare payment information on the claim submitted to BCBSRI. Claims missing Medicare information will be denied with 'Submit to Medicare first' message.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must ensure all BCBSRI secondary claims include Medicare payment information when Medicare is primary payer. Update billing software to require Medicare payment details on COB claims. Train staff to verify Medicare information is included before submitting to BCBSRI. Claims without Medicare information will be denied.
