Summary
BCBSRI now requires contracted providers to refer members only to in-network providers for all services including DME, radiology, behavioral health, and lab services. Four specific laboratories (Accu Reference Lab, Quest Diagnostics, Total Toxicology, U.S. Lab & Radiology) are confirmed as out-of-network and cannot be used for BCBSRI member referrals.
Action Required
By April 1, 2026: Providers must verify network status of all referral partners using BCBSRI's Find a Doctor tool before establishing referral relationships. Immediately stop referring BCBSRI members to Accu Reference Lab, Quest Diagnostics, Total Toxicology, and U.S. Lab & Radiology. Update referral protocols and staff training to require network verification for all DME, radiology, behavioral health, and laboratory referrals. Failure to refer in-network may result in claim processing issues.
