Summary
Starting January 15, 2022, BCBSWY members can get up to 8 FDA-authorized over-the-counter COVID-19 home tests per month at no cost through in-network pharmacies or via reimbursement up to $12 per test. Healthcare providers offering OTC tests must collect payment upfront as claims will be denied - patients must file paper reimbursement claims themselves.
Action Required
Immediately: If offering OTC COVID-19 home tests to BCBSWY patients, collect full payment at time of service. Do NOT submit claims to BCBSWY as they will be denied. Provide itemized receipts for patient reimbursement (max $12 per test). Direct patients to BCBSWY.com/covid19 for reimbursement instructions. Continue normal billing for physician-ordered COVID lab tests.
