Summary
BCBSWY is promoting use of Availity portal for document submission and prior authorization requests, with specific exceptions for transplant services, psychiatric/substance abuse services, and certain facility-based care. Federal Employee Plan (FEP) members have special case management requirements for certain services.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team should transition to using Availity portal for submitting appeals, corrected claims, medical records, and invoices to BCBSWY instead of faxing or mailing. Submit all prior authorization requests through Availity except for transplant services, intensive outpatient psychiatric/substance abuse services, and facility-based care (hospice, SNF, acute rehab, etc.). For FEP patients needing Applied Behavioral Analysis, Gender Reassignment, Residential Treatment, or SNF services, contact FEP case management at 1-800-210-7257 instead of using Availity. Staff should complete the Availity training webinar and enroll in the portal.
