Summary
BCBSWY will require providers to prescribe preferred drugs (listed at the top of medical policies) when requesting prior authorization starting January 1, 2025. Additionally, new modifiers CO and CQ are now permitted for occupational and physical therapy assistants.
Action Required
By January 1, 2025: Providers must check BCBSWY medical policies for preferred drug listings and prescribe only preferred drugs when requesting prior authorization. Contact Provider Relations if preferred drugs cannot be acquired. Billing team must update systems to allow modifiers CO (Occupational Therapy Assistant) and CQ (Physical Therapy Assistant). Existing prescriptions are grandfathered until new prior auth is needed.
