Summary
BCBSND has expanded their Long-Acting Insulin Prior Authorization Program to include three additional agents: Toujeo, Basaglar, and Insulin glargine 300 units/ml. This means prior authorization is now required for these insulin products for BCBSND commercial members, in addition to the previously covered agents.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update prior authorization workflows to include Toujeo, Basaglar, and Insulin glargine 300 units/ml for BCBSND commercial patients. Notify providers that these three insulin products now require prior auth before prescribing to BCBSND members. Update encounter forms and EMR alerts to include these agents in the Long-Acting Insulin PA program. Claims for these medications will be denied without prior authorization.
