Summary
BCBS North Dakota now allows providers to request independent external reviews for medical necessity determinations on behalf of members, but only after exhausting the standard appeal process. This creates a new avenue for challenging denied claims when providers believe services were medically necessary.

Immediately: Billing team should review the BCBSND Provider Manual for detailed independent external review procedures. Update appeal workflows to include this new option as a final step after standard appeals are exhausted. Note that this option is not available for benefit plan exclusions or Federal Employee Program claims.
