Summary
Effective May 11, 2023, BCBS Kansas is ending COVID-19 pandemic benefit modifications and returning to normal cost-sharing for all COVID-related services. Members will now be responsible for copays and deductibles for COVID testing, vaccines, treatments, and related services that were previously covered at 100%.
Action Required
By May 11, 2023: Billing team must update system to collect patient cost-sharing (copays, deductibles) for all COVID-19 related services including testing, vaccines, treatments, and antibody infusion therapy. Update patient registration to verify benefits and inform patients of cost responsibility. Remove any billing rules that waived cost-sharing for COVID services. Front desk staff must collect copays at time of service for COVID-related visits using codes 99211 and 99202.
