CPT code 99459 for chaperoning pelvic exams will no longer be separately reimbursed and becomes part of the examination service effective October 1, 2024. This add-on code was previously allowed for reimbursement incorrectly.
Action Required
By October 1, 2024: Billing team must stop billing CPT code 99459 as a separate add-on code for pelvic exam chaperoning. Update billing system to remove this code from encounter forms and ensure it is not submitted as a separate line item. The chaperoning time is now included in the examination code reimbursement.
