Summary

Effective retroactively from February 1, 2020, the Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP) no longer requires copayments for tobacco cessation drugs including varenicline, bupropion, and nicotine replacement therapies. Providers should not collect copayments for these medications and members can request refunds for copayments already collected since February 1, 2020.

Immediately: Billing team must update pharmacy billing procedures to stop collecting copayments for tobacco cessation drugs (varenicline, bupropion for tobacco cessation, nicotine replacement therapies) for Indiana Medicaid patients. Contact any patients who paid copayments for these drugs since February 1, 2020 to inform them they can request refunds from the pharmacy provider.
