Summary
Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP/Medicaid) will now cover procedure code G2213 for initiation and coordination of opioid treatment in emergency departments. This new add-on code covers assessment, referral, and arranging supportive services for opioid use disorder patients and must be billed with regular ED E/M codes on professional claims only.
Action Required
By July 7, 2022: Billing team must update system to include G2213 as a billable add-on code for ED visits treating opioid use disorder. Configure system to only allow G2213 on professional claims (CMS-1500/837P) with concurrent ED E/M codes 99281-99285. Train ED billing staff that G2213 covers assessment, referral, and supportive services coordination but not the medication itself. Only one unit can be billed per encounter.
