Summary
Indiana Medicaid has corrected medically unlikely edits (MUEs) for hospital care CPT codes 99221-99223, 99231-99233, and 99238-99239 that were incorrectly denying when billed with revenue code 762 (observation services). Claims will be automatically reprocessed starting July 19, 2023, with retroactive correction back to January 1, 2023.
Action Required
Monitor remittance advices starting July 19, 2023 for automatically adjusted claims with ICN/Claim IDs beginning with 52 or 80. No manual action required as system will mass adjust previously denied claims. For future claims, continue billing these hospital care codes with revenue code 762 for observation services as the system has been corrected.
