Summary
Indiana Medicaid (IHCP) is changing how long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) like IUDs and implants are billed and reimbursed. Starting October 1, 2023, pharmacy providers can only be reimbursed for LARC claims if they meet specific state requirements for reselling returned products, and unused LARCs can be transferred between Medicaid patients under certain conditions.
Action Required
By October 1, 2023: Pharmacy providers must verify they meet Indiana Code IC 25-26-13-25 requirements for dispensing returned products to continue receiving LARC reimbursement through pharmacy benefits. When transferring unused LARC products between Medicaid patients, reverse the original claim and resubmit for the new patient. Medical benefit LARC claims remain unchanged, and FQHCs/RHCs are exempt from these changes.
