Summary
Indiana Medicaid (IHCP) reminds providers that certain non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) services are carved out from brokerage arrangements: BLS/ALS ambulance services must be scheduled directly with ambulance providers (not through brokers), and nursing facilities are responsible for arranging all NEMT for their residents. This policy has been in effect since July 1, 2023.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must verify that BLS and ALS ambulance services for Indiana Medicaid members are scheduled directly with ambulance providers, not through Verida or MCE brokers. Nursing facilities must coordinate and reimburse transportation for their Medicaid residents directly. Update staff training to ensure proper scheduling procedures are followed to avoid service denials.
