Action Required
Immediately (retroactive to May 31, 2023): Billing team must update ambulance transportation modifier usage to revert to pre-PHE descriptions. Update billing system and staff training to use restored modifier descriptions for D, E, H, N, and R modifiers. Review and reprocess any ambulance claims from May 31, 2023 forward that used the temporarily expanded modifier descriptions to ensure compliance with restored CMS standards.
