Summary
Beginning March 26, 2026, all electronic eligibility inquiries (270 transactions) submitted to Cigna Healthcare must include the National Provider Identifier (NPI) in the correct data segment. Transactions without NPI will be rejected with a 999 error response.
Action Required
By March 26, 2026: Billing team must contact their direct clearinghouse to update 270 transaction format to include NPI in segment NM109 with 'XX' qualifier in NM108. Monitor all eligibility responses from clearinghouse to ensure transactions are not being rejected. Failure to include NPI will result in automatic transaction rejections.
