Summary
Independence Blue Cross expanded telemedicine coverage effective 01/01/2026 to include all specialties with synchronous audio-only and asynchronous communications options. Thirteen previously non-covered CPT/HCPCS codes (98966-98972, G2061-G2063, G0071, G2010, G2250-G2252) are now eligible for reimbursement. The GQ modifier is now an eligible billing modifier for telemedicine claims.
Action Required
By 12/15/2025: Billing team must update claims processing system to recognize newly eligible CPT codes 98966, 98967, 98968, 98970, 98971, 98972, G2061, G2062, G2063, G0071, G2010, G2250, G2251, and G2252 for reimbursement under Independence Blue Cross Commercial plans. Ensure GQ modifier is configured as an eligible telemedicine modifier in billing software. Update provider encounter forms and templates to reflect that audio-only and asynchronous telemedicine services are now covered for all specialties. Verify that claims are no longer rejected for these codes under the new policy. Communicate changes to providers and front-desk staff regarding expanded telemedicine delivery methods. Failure to update systems by 01/01/2026 will result in claim denials for newly eligible codes and modifier usage.
