Summary

HMSA is introducing a new unified membership card for Akamai Advantage® Dual Care (PPO D-SNP) members starting Jan. 1, 2027, that combines Medicare and QUEST benefit information on a single card. Billing teams must prepare to process eligibility verification using the updated card format, which includes separate member ID numbers, prescription drug information, and QUEST primary care provider details.

Action Required

Before Jan 1, 2027
By December 31, 2026: Billing team and front desk staff must prepare to recognize and process the new dual-format HMSA Akamai Advantage® Dual Care member cards. Verify that your eligibility verification system, claims submission software, and patient registration workflows can correctly parse and distinguish between Medicare member IDs and QUEST member IDs from the new card format. Train all staff who handle member identification (billing, intake, pharmacy coordination) on the new card layout and the presence of two separate member ID numbers. Update any internal eligibility verification procedures to ensure both Medicare and QUEST IDs are captured during check-in. Note: This is an informational change with no billing code updates or prior authorization changes required—focus is on operational readiness to avoid claim processing delays when members present new cards after Jan. 1, 2027.
