Summary

Effective October 19, 2026, KMAP adds 30 medications across multiple therapeutic classes to require Clinical Prior Authorization, including oncology agents, immunotherapies, specialty injectables, and oral medications. A Grandfather PA process exempts current maintenance users with ≥80% adherence from the new PA requirement.

Action Required

Before Oct 19, 2026
By October 19, 2026: Billing team must update prior authorization rules in billing system for all 30 medications listed in KMAP Bulletin 26159, organized by drug name and formulation (tablets, capsules, vials, prefilled syringes, injections, patches, oral powder, cell suspension). Identify KanCare patients currently on these medications and flag those with <80% adherence to require new PA submission before claims processing. Communicate with providers and prior auth staff to submit PA requests for new prescriptions and non-compliant patients. Update encounter forms and medication verification workflows to prompt PA verification. Claims submitted without required PA will be denied. Flag affected medications in pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) system and internal authorization protocols.
