Summary

Availity Essentials now allows providers to view and respond to Requests for Additional Information (RFAI) directly online through the Authorization/Referral Dashboard, eliminating the need for phone calls or faxes. Billing teams can upload supporting documentation (up to 10 attachments or 64 MB) and track authorization follow-ups in a single dashboard.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Billing team must begin using the Availity Essentials Authorization/Referral Dashboard to manage RFAI responses online instead of relying on phone/fax workflows. Access the dashboard, look for 'Pending Action – Contact Payer' status, review the Review Reason 1 field for payer messages, and upload clinical documentation responses in the RFAI section. For authorizations submitted outside Availity, use the Authorization/Referral Inquiry tool to pin them to the dashboard for tracking. Complete training by accessing Help & Training > Get Trained and searching 'CNC' or 'process requests for additional information authorizations' in the Learning Center to ensure staff proficiency with the new online process.
