Summary
Availity Essentials now allows providers to view and respond to Requests for Additional Information (RFAI) directly within the platform instead of managing authorization follow-ups through calls or faxes. The billing team can upload supporting clinical documentation (up to 10 attachments or 64 MB) and track all activity from a single Authorization/Referral Dashboard.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing and authorization teams should access the Authorization/Referral Dashboard in Availity Essentials to familiarize themselves with the RFAI workflow. Train staff to identify 'Pending Action – Contact Payer' status in the Status/Last Updated column, review payer messages in the Review Reason 1 field, and upload responses using the RFAI section. For authorizations submitted outside Availity Essentials (via other portals or fax), use the Authorization/Referral Inquiry tool and pin them to the dashboard to enable RFAI tracking. Access the three-minute demo under Help & Training > Get Trained and search 'CNC' in the Learning Center for 'Auth Request for Additional Information.' This change eliminates manual calls and faxes, so expedite adoption to prevent response delays on pending authorizations.
