Summary

Availity Essentials now allows providers to view and respond to Requests for Additional Information (RFAI) directly within the platform instead of through phone calls or faxes. The billing team can upload clinical documentation, track authorization status in a single dashboard, and monitor response deadlines online.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Billing and authorization staff should access Availity Essentials and familiarize themselves with the new RFAI workflow. (1) Log into Availity Essentials and navigate to the Authorization/Referral Dashboard. (2) Review the Summary page and identify requests marked 'Pending Action – Contact Payer' in the Status/Last Updated column. (3) Open each authorization, review the Review Reason 1 field for payer messages, and scroll to the RFAI section for request details. (4) Prepare and upload supporting clinical documentation (up to 10 attachments or 64 MB total) directly through the platform. (5) For authorizations submitted outside Availity Essentials (via other portals or fax), use the Authorization/Referral Inquiry tool to pin them to the dashboard for tracking. (6) Access training via Availity Essentials Help & Training > Get Trained, search 'CNC' > 'Auth Request for Additional Information,' or review step-by-step instructions in the Provider Help Center. This eliminates delays from manual follow-ups and reduces claim denials from missed or delayed payer requests.
