Summary

Availity Essentials now enables providers to view and respond to Requests for Additional Information (RFAI) directly within the platform, eliminating the need for phone calls or faxes. The billing team can track authorization follow-ups in a single dashboard and upload supporting documentation (up to 10 attachments or 64 MB) to respond to payer requests online.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Billing team and authorization staff should familiarize themselves with the new RFAI feature in Availity Essentials by reviewing the Authorization/Referral Dashboard. Access the three-minute demo via Help & Training > Get Trained, then search 'CNC' and select 'Auth Request for Additional Information.' Update your authorization follow-up workflow to prioritize responding to RFAI requests online through the dashboard rather than via phone or fax. For authorizations submitted outside Availity Essentials (via another portal or fax), use the Authorization/Referral Inquiry tool to pin them to your dashboard for tracking. Note: RFAI requests sent before pinning will continue to arrive through other channels. Train relevant staff on the new process within 30 days to ensure consistent adoption.
