Summary
Effective July 1, 2026, CareFirst is updating Place of Service (POS) code 02 (Telehealth Provided Other than in a Patient's Home) to reimburse at professional facility rates instead of previous rates. Billing teams must review updated Payment Policy PP CO 200.02 and the POS assignment grid to ensure correct claims submission for telehealth services.
Action Required
By June 30, 2026: Billing team must review CareFirst Payment Policy PP CO 200.02 (Telemedicine Services – Professional) and the updated POS assignment grid referenced in the policy. Update billing software fee schedules to reflect professional facility rates for POS 02 claims submitted on or after July 1, 2026. Verify that all telehealth claims submitted as POS 02 are configured to use the correct professional facility fee schedule rates. Communicate changes to all providers submitting telehealth claims to CareFirst to prevent reimbursement discrepancies.
