Advance notification ending for select GI endoscopy services

By September 30, 2026: Billing and clinical teams must update workflows to STOP submitting advance notification requests for esophagogastroduodenoscopies (EGD), capsule endoscopies, and diagnostic/surveillance colonoscopies to UnitedHealthcare. Remove prior authorization requirements from billing system rules, encounter forms, and provider templates for these procedures. Remove any site-of-service medical necessity review processes for these procedures when performed in outpatient hospital settings. Notify all gastroenterology providers and front-desk staff that these procedures no longer require pre-authorization, which may reduce claim processing delays. Update internal approval workflows and EMR documentation templates accordingly. Failure to implement these changes may result in unnecessary claim delays or denials due to submission of no-longer-required advance notifications.
