Summary

Effective December 1, 2025, Providence Health Plan will cap reimbursement for CPT 01967 (neuraxial labor analgesia/anesthesia for planned vaginal delivery) at 480 units (minutes) for all non-Medicaid lines of business. Any units billed in excess of 480 will be denied. This is a new reimbursement cap that requires billing teams to monitor and adjust claim submissions accordingly.

Action Required

Action needed
By November 15, 2025: Billing team must update billing system to flag and cap CPT 01967 claims at 480 units for all non-Medicaid plans (Commercial and Medicare Advantage). Configure system to deny or reject units submitted in excess of 480 on a single claim. Anesthesia providers must be notified to monitor anesthesia time documentation and ensure total time reported does not exceed 480 minutes per claim; if procedures exceed 480 minutes, determine if multiple claims or split billing is appropriate per plan guidelines. Update internal tracking and audit processes to catch claims exceeding the cap before submission. Test billing system changes before the December 1 effective date. Failure to implement this cap will result in claim denials for units exceeding 480.
