Summary
Capital Blue Cross will display provider directory information on Medicare.gov beginning in Plan Year 2027 as required by CMS interoperability rules. Providers must verify that their NPPES records match the information submitted to Capital Blue Cross to prevent conflicting directory data that could affect Medicare beneficiary access to your practice.
Action Required
Before Plan Year 2027 (by December 31, 2026): Providers and billing team must audit and verify all practice information in both Capital Blue Cross provider directory and NPPES records, ensuring consistency across: provider name, practice locations, phone numbers, specialty/subspecialty designations, new patient acceptance status, network participation status, and facility affiliations. Billing team should designate a staff member to contact your Provider Engagement Consultant or use the Capital Blue Cross PEC lookup tool (capbluecross.com/wps/portal/cap/provider/pec-look-up) to confirm your designated point of contact and obtain the Provider Demographic Updates Quick Reference Guide. Update any discrepancies immediately in both systems. CMS requires updates within 30 days of becoming aware of changes. Failure to maintain accurate directory information may result in Medicare beneficiaries being unable to locate or verify your participation, affecting patient volume and claims processing accuracy.
