Beginning January 1, 2026, dental therapists can now enroll separately with Wisconsin Medicaid to provide and bill for preventive, restorative, and periodontal dental services. This creates a new provider category that can submit independent claims for covered dental services.

Action Required

Action needed
No immediate action required for most practices. Dental practices in Wisconsin working with dental therapists should: 1) Inform any employed dental therapists they can now enroll separately with Wisconsin Medicaid starting January 1, 2026, 2) Update billing workflows to accommodate separate NPI billing by dental therapists, 3) Ensure dental therapists complete the ForwardHealth Portal enrollment process if they wish to bill independently.
