Summary
The Arkansas Department of Human Services has added two new UB-04 codes effective in 2026: Condition Code E1 for outpatient visits that convert to inpatient admissions due to unforeseen complications (effective 7/1/2026), and Value Code 93 for machine perfusion organ charges (effective 10/1/2026). Billing teams must update their systems to recognize and properly apply these codes on claims submitted to Arkansas payers.
Action Required
By July 1, 2026: Billing team must update billing software and claim submission systems to recognize and support Condition Code E1 for outpatient-to-inpatient conversions due to unforeseen complications. By October 1, 2026: Update systems to recognize and properly bill Value Code 93 for machine perfusion organ charges. Ensure providers and clinical staff understand when to flag cases with Code E1 (unexpected complications during outpatient visits requiring admission). Verify that claim templates and encounter forms in the EHR/billing system include these codes. Test updated systems before each effective date. Contact Provider Assistance Center at (800) 457-4454 or (501) 376-2211 with implementation questions. Failure to implement may result in claim rejections or denials for applicable cases.
