Action Required

Action needed
By July 31, 2026: Billing team must update billing software to enforce place of service 20 (urgent care facilities) as a mandatory requirement when billing S9083 and S9088. Configure system to reject or flag claims with these codes billed to any other place of service. Update provider encounter templates and billing instructions to clarify that S9083 is a standalone global fee code for urgent care visits, and S9088 is an add-on code that must accompany an E/M or procedure code and can only be used in urgent care settings. Train all billing and coding staff on the new restrictions. Failure to comply will result in claim denials for improper place of service coding.
