Summary
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is implementing a new Chiropractor Quality Reward Program (Year 1) effective September 1, 2026, offering eligible chiropractors 5% value-based reimbursement on PPO professional claims based on low back pain imaging quality metrics. The previous Michigan Back Collaborative program ends August 31, 2026. Year 2 enrollment has been extended to September 30, 2026, requiring chiropractors to re-enroll to continue participation.
Action Required
By September 30, 2026: Chiropractors participating in the Year 1 program must re-enroll for Year 2 of the LBP value-based reimbursement program through the chiropractic quality rewards website. Update provider details and geographic indicators during re-enrollment. Billing team should monitor claims from September 1, 2026 onward to verify that 5% value-based reimbursement is applied to eligible PPO professional claims for participating, qualifying chiropractors. Note that providers on corrective action or utilization review are ineligible. Accounting/Finance team should be aware that chiropractors who earned 5% under the MiBAC program (ending August 31) may experience no net change in allowed amounts if they also earn 5% under the new LBP program starting September 1, and should prepare for communication regarding this transition.
