Summary

Beginning September 8, 2026, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma will no longer mail prior authorization and referral approval letters to providers via USPS. Instead, all approval letters for commercial members will be available digitally through the Provider Correspondence Viewer in Availity Essentials. Denial letters will continue to be mailed and remain electronically available. Providers may opt out and continue receiving approval letters by mail by submitting a request to Provider Education Consultants.

Action Required

Action needed
By September 8, 2026: Billing team and administrative staff must transition to accessing prior authorization and referral approval letters through the Provider Correspondence Viewer in Availity Essentials rather than waiting for mailed documents. Update internal workflows to check Availity Essentials for approval letters instead of monitoring mail. If your practice prefers to continue receiving approval letters via USPS, submit an opt-out request to BCBSOK Provider Education Consultants before the effective date, including National Provider Identifier, Provider Tax ID, Provider name, Provider city/state/ZIP, and Requester name. Notify front desk and clinical staff of the change to prevent delays in care authorization. Ensure all staff have access to and know how to navigate Availity Essentials.
