Summary
Aetna has launched the Availity Medical Attachments Dashboard, a new multi-payer digital tool for providers to view and respond to attachment/documentation requests for claims. This dashboard is available now in Availity Essentials and complements (not replaces) existing clearinghouse workflows. Billing teams can now access attachment requests from Aetna and other participating payers in one centralized location, with the ability to submit documentation, track submission status, and generate reports.
Action Required
Immediately: (1) Availity Administrator must complete Medical Attachments Setup in Availity Essentials by accessing Enrollments Center > Multi-Payer Enrollments > Medical Attachments Setup, registering the provider organization with NPI/Tax ID, and assigning the 'Medical Attachments' role to authorized billing staff. (2) All authorized billing team members must access the dashboard at Availity.com by selecting Claims & Payments > Attachments – New to begin viewing Aetna and other payer attachment requests. (3) Billing staff must review incoming requests in the Inbox queue, carefully verify the payer name and documentation requirements before uploading files, confirm correct file attachment, and submit via the dashboard. CRITICAL: After submission, attachments cannot be edited or cancelled—verify file accuracy before clicking Submit. (4) Establish internal process to monitor Sent and History queues to confirm submissions are accepted by payers. (5) Do NOT remove or change existing clearinghouse workflows; this dashboard is an additional channel only.
