Summary
Oregon Health Authority (OHA) is requesting public comments on a proposed Substance Use Disorder (SUD) 1115 Waiver application to CMS. If approved, this waiver would expand Medicaid funding to cover residential treatment services in facilities with more than 16 beds, recovery support services, and transitional housing support—services currently not eligible for Medicaid reimbursement in Oregon. This is a public comment period; no immediate billing changes are required, but practices should monitor for future implementation.
Action Required
By 5 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2020: If your practice provides substance use disorder treatment services or supports in Oregon, consider submitting comments to sud.waiver@dhsoha.state.or.us (fax 503-947-1119) regarding the proposed SUD 1115 Waiver. Monitor the Oregon Health Authority website (https://www.oregon.gov/oha/HSD/Medicaid-Policy/Pages/SUD-Waiver.html) for updates on waiver approval status and implementation timelines. Once approved (if applicable), billing team should await separate guidance on updated billing procedures, prior authorization requirements, and applicable codes for expanded SUD services. No immediate billing system changes are required at this time.
