Summary

Medi-Cal will enforce a provider enrollment requirement for all prescribers (doctors, NPs, PAs) and pharmacists submitting prescriptions, effective soon. Prescriptions from non-enrolled providers will be denied reimbursement. Providers must verify enrollment status immediately via the state's Enrolled Providers list or submit applications through the PAVE portal if not yet enrolled.

Action Required

Action needed
IMMEDIATELY: All providers who submit Medi-Cal prescriptions must (1) verify individual NPI enrollment status at https://data.chhs.ca.gov/dataset/profile-of-enrolled-medi-cal-fee-for-service-ffs-providers/ by scrolling to search field and entering their NPI; (2) if NOT enrolled, submit Medi-Cal provider application via PAVE Portal (https://pave.dhcs.ca.gov/sso/register.do) with complete documentation. Billing team must: flag any claims from non-enrolled prescribers for denial prevention, contact providers to confirm enrollment status before processing prescriptions, and prepare for claim rejections once enforcement begins (specific enforcement date to be announced). Applications take 90-180 days to process, so early action is critical. Failure to enroll will result in claim denials and disruption of member access to medications.
