Summary
Aetna has classified musculoskeletal assessment systems as experimental and unproven, including Metrecom skeletal analysis and FIGUR8 Advanced Musculoskeletal Assessment System for neuromuscular control screening. CPT codes 0778T, 95851, and 97750 are NOT covered when used for these assessment systems or injury prevention indications. Billing teams must deny claims for these services under Aetna plans or ensure proper medical necessity documentation for covered indications only.

By March 25, 2026: Billing team must update all billing system rules and edits to deny or require prior authorization review for CPT codes 0778T (surface mechanomyography with IMU sensors), 95851 (range of motion measurements), and 97750 (physical performance testing) when submitted with ICD-10 diagnosis codes M00.00-M99.9 (musculoskeletal disorders), S00.00xA-T14.91 (injuries), or Z13.820-Z13.828 and Z13.850-Z13.858 (screening encounters) on Aetna plans. Update provider encounter documentation templates and compliance training to clarify these services are non-covered for neuromuscular control screening, injury prevention, and rehabilitation. Claims submitted for these indications will be denied as experimental/investigational. Service is covered only for other medically necessary indications meeting coverage criteria outside the experimental classifications listed.
