Summary
Beginning February 1, 2026, UnitedHealthcare requires all post-service appeals to be submitted electronically through their Provider Portal or API. Paper submissions for post-service appeals will no longer be accepted for commercial and Medicare Advantage plans.
Action Required
By February 1, 2026: Billing team must transition all post-service appeals to electronic submission using either the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal or API. Set up One Healthcare ID accounts if not already registered. Train staff on new digital workflow for appeals submission through Claims & Payments > Look up a Claim portal section. Update internal procedures to eliminate paper appeal processes. Failure to submit electronically will result in appeals not being processed.
