Summary
Aetna's updated CPB 0832 (effective 2025-12-09) classifies implantable left atrial hemodynamic monitors as experimental, investigational, or unproven. CPT codes 0933T and 0934T and ICD-10 codes I50.1-I50.9 are NOT COVERED for heart failure indications. Billing teams must deny or reject all claims for these devices and monitoring services.
Action Required
EFFECTIVE 2025-12-09: Billing team must immediately update billing software to DENY all claims for CPT 0933T (transcatheter implantation of wireless left atrial pressure sensor) and CPT 0934T (remote monitoring of wireless left atrial pressure sensor) when billed with ICD-10 diagnosis codes I50.1 through I50.9 (heart failure indications). Configure system to auto-deny these code combinations or flag for manual review with denial reason: 'Experimental/investigational service - not covered.' Front desk and clinical staff must update patient notification templates to communicate that these devices are not covered by Aetna. Providers should be notified that prior authorization requests for these procedures will be denied. Do NOT bill patients' secondary insurance; communicate non-coverage upfront to manage expectations and prevent account receivables issues.
