Action Required
By March 12, 2026: Billing team must update claim submission rules to automatically deny CPT 93740 for all Aetna plans and all ICD-10 diagnosis codes listed in the policy. Add CPT 93740 to the non-covered procedures list in billing software with denial reason: 'Thermography is experimental and unproven.' Front-line billing staff should prepare denial letters referencing CPB 0029. Provider education team should communicate this policy to all clinicians who may order thermography (particularly orthopedic, neurology, rheumatology, pain management, and plastic surgery providers). Claims submitted for thermography will be automatically denied without prior authorization opportunity.
