Summary
IHCP clarifies that dental providers must use claim filing code CI (Commercial Insurance Co.) for all dental claims submitted for fee-for-service Medicaid members with Medicare Advantage Plans as primary coverage. Previously, some providers incorrectly used MA and MB codes, resulting in overpayments. Since dental services are excluded from Medicare Parts A and B, Medicare Advantage dental coverage is treated as commercial insurance.
Action Required
Immediately effective: Billing team must audit and correct all dental claim submissions in the IHCP Provider Healthcare Portal. For any Medicaid member with Medicare Advantage Plan coverage, ensure the Claim Filing Code field in the Other Insurance Details panel is set to CI (Commercial Insurance Co.), NOT MA or MB. Retrain all staff submitting dental claims on this requirement. Review recent claims for members with Medicare Advantage Plans and resubmit any claims using incorrect MA or MB codes with CI selected instead. Failure to use the correct code will result in claim overpayments and potential recoupment by IHCP.
