Summary
Harvard Pilgrim Health Care is launching a new virtual musculoskeletal care program in collaboration with Hinge Health, available at no additional cost to eligible members ages 18+. The app-based program provides virtual physical therapy, movement analysis, and AI-assisted care. Fully insured groups can access this starting July 1, 2026, while self-insured accounts can opt in starting January 1, 2027. Billing teams should be aware this is a covered benefit that may reduce or redirect certain in-person MSK claims.
Action Required
By June 15, 2026: Billing team and providers should review the Hinge Health program details at hinge.health/harvardpilgrim to understand eligibility and program scope. No billing code changes are required at this time, as this is a supplemental benefit program. However, providers should be prepared to educate eligible patients about this no-cost virtual option during MSK care consultations and consider whether in-person PT referrals should be coordinated with the Hinge Health program. By January 1, 2027: Ensure billing staff understand that self-insured Harvard Pilgrim accounts may now offer this benefit and update patient education materials accordingly. Monitor for any claims issues related to members using both programs simultaneously and escalate to Harvard Pilgrim Member Services if coordination-of-care conflicts arise.
