Summary
Connecticut Medical Assistance Program (CMAP) is mandating Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for all secure web portal users (Master Users and Clerks) effective August 1, 2026. Users must enroll in MFA using either an Authenticator App or Email Verification before the deadline. Additionally, security question structure has been updated to use structured drop-down menus (effective May 13, 2026) and password requirements have been strengthened to 15-30 characters with specific complexity rules.
Action Required
By August 1, 2026: All Master Users and Clerk staff who access the CMAP secure web portal must complete MFA enrollment. Billing team and front desk staff responsible for portal access should: (1) Enroll in MFA using either Authenticator App (Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, or Authy recommended) or Email Verification method; (2) Update registered email addresses if outdated via Account tab > Account Maintenance to ensure verification codes are received; (3) Document their MFA enrollment method for staff records; (4) Attend one of the open office hours (August 3-7, 2026) if questions arise during setup. Additionally, before August 1, 2026: (1) Update all security questions using the new structured drop-down format via Account > Account Maintenance; (2) Ensure all portal passwords meet new requirements (15-30 characters with at least 3 of 4 character types: upper case, lower case, numbers, special characters); (3) Train all staff on password reset procedures and account lockout protocols (4 failed attempts locks account). Failure to enroll by August 1, 2026 will prevent portal access for login, password resets, and EFT updates.
