Summary
Humana Kentucky Medicaid has established a NEW coverage policy for the RECELL Autologous Cell Harvesting Device effective 08/12/2026. Coverage is approved for four specific indications: (1) thermal burn wounds combined with meshed autografting, (2) full-thickness skin defects from traumatic avulsion/surgical excision/resection (age 15+), (3) acute partial-thickness thermal burns (age 18+), and (4) vitiligo repigmentation (age 18+). (2) Update encounter forms and provider templates to include the four covered indications checklist and contraindications screening (trypsin/compound sodium lactate hypersensitivity, anesthetics/epinephrine/povidone-iodine/chlorhexidine hypersensitivity). (3) Train billing staff and providers on age restrictions: 15+ for traumatic/surgical skin defects, 18+ for partial-thickness burns and vitiligo. (4) Reject or hold any claims for unlisted indications (chronic wounds, surgical wounds, necrotizing fasciitis) as not medically necessary per policy statement. (5) For members under 21, ensure prior auth reviewers apply EPSDT medical necessity standards. Failure to obtain prior auth will result in claim denials.
