Summary
Indiana Medicaid has updated modifier requirements for behavioral health services billed under supervising practitioners. Licensed psychologists must now use modifier AH (effective immediately, retroactive to Jan 1, 2025), and the system will automatically adjust previously paid claims to correct reimbursement rates for various behavioral health practitioners.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update Indiana Medicaid claims to use modifier AH when licensed psychologists or licensed independent school psychologists bill under a supervising practitioner's NPI (retroactive to Jan 1, 2025). Review Table 1 for all behavioral health modifier requirements (HE for LCSW/LMFT/LMHC/LCAC, HL for behavioral health interns, SA for APRNs). Expect automatic claim adjustments from the state beginning April 1, 2026 for incorrect payments.
