Summary
UPMC Health Plan has created a new LGBTQIA+ Affirming Provider designation to help members identify culturally competent providers. Providers can earn this voluntary designation by completing three AMA-approved learning modules and submitting an attestation. The designation will be visible in UPMC provider directories starting summer/fall 2022 and is informational only—it does not affect billing, coding, or claims processing.

No billing team action required. This is a voluntary provider credentialing initiative that does not impact claims processing, billing codes, reimbursement, or documentation requirements. Providers interested in earning the designation should independently complete the three learning modules and attestation through their appropriate access portal (HR Direct Learning for UPMC-employed providers, or UPMC Health Plan patient health resources page for non-UPMC providers). Billing operations remain unchanged.
