Summary
UPMC for You (Medical Assistance), UPMC for Kids (CHIP), and UPMC Community HealthChoices have reinstated PROMISe ID enrollment requirements for all service locations. Providers must enroll every location with DHS, obtain/maintain a PROMISe ID, and revalidate every 5 years to avoid claim denials effective September 1, 2023. Failure to comply will result in claim rejections for these patient populations.
Action Required
REQUIREMENTS:
- By 60 days BEFORE each service location's PROMISe revalidation date: Billing/credentialing team must log into PROMISe system, identify revalidation dates for all enrolled locations, and submit revalidation applications. Failure to revalidate will result in claim denials.
- Immediately: Credentialing team must audit all service locations currently seeing UPMC for You, UPMC for Kids, or UPMC Community HealthChoices members to identify which locations are enrolled in PROMISe and which are not.
- Before September 1, 2023: Providers and staff who order, refer, prescribe, or offer services for these three plan types must ensure every service location is registered with DHS and has an active PROMISe ID (Medicaid ID/MPI). Enroll any missing locations.
- Establish ongoing compliance tracking: Billing team must create a spreadsheet or system record tracking each service location's PROMISe enrollment status and 5-year revalidation deadlines. Set automated reminders for 60+ days prior to each revalidation date.
- Contact DHS at 1-800-537-8862 (option 2, option 4, option 2) with questions regarding enrollment, revalidation procedures, fees, site visits, or background checks.
- Review DHS Medical Assistance Bulletins 99-21-01 and 99-22-11 for complete requirements and procedural details.
